New directions for Disaster Recovery?

By admin | September 7, 2007

I think Disaster Recovery is going through a watershed of change. Yes I saw the appearance of blade servers (and the subsequent race to change the airconditioning designs of server rooms). I watch the ongoing transition to accommodate VOIP in disaster recovery, but I have to say - I think virtualisation is something that snuck up on me. It wasn’t until I recently met Nick Butler at PodcampUk did I start to get my head around the consequences of virtualisation technology on the Disaster Recovery industry. What happens to your Disaster Recovery strategy when your servers are virtual? What if you are locked into a 10 year contract with a recovery provider like Sungard? Will you be locked into recovering actual tin boxes or will they be able to work with you to leverage the benefits of virtualisation? Nick is appearing on the podcast very soon, if you have a question for him, let us know this week. Take a moment to read some of his thoughts on O’Reilly

This is a new direction, and if its not coming to your companys IT strategy, maybe you should ask why?
